Our story is about a journey of growth and innovation in the financial sector.
The story started back in 1985, when Mario Zarattini, a nuclear physicist with a keen interest in finance, set up the Zarattini group in Italy.
Zarattini's vision went beyond national borders, and in 1991, it ventured into Switzerland, founding Zarattini & Co. in Lugano. SA, initially operating as a trust company specialised in managing private fortunes.
The 90s and the beginning of the 2000s were marked by rapid evolution. In 1991, the inception of Martin Group signified a groundbreaking moment, as one of the earliest hedge funds in Europe. The company kept on growing and in 2001 obtained the security dealer license from FINMA, the Swiss supervisory authority. 2005 signified a major breakthrough: the company obtained approval for banking operations, thereby officially rebranding as "Banca Zarattini & Co.".
The expansion and innovation continued unabated. In 2003, the creation of Timeo Neutral Sicav expanded the range of fund solutions. In 2011, the acquisition of a team specialised in bond intermediation and negotiation took place, further enhancing the bank's expertise. The following year, the bank acquired 100% of Banca Euromobiliare (Suisse), consolidating its position in the Swiss market.
2015, the year when Zarattini International Ltd was established, is a significant moment in solidifying our international footprint.
In 2017, a significant consolidation operation occurred, including the acquisition of BIM (Suisse), followed the following year by the launch of the Trade Finance unit.
In 2023, the acquisition of a stake in Compagnia Fiduciaria Lombarda took place. A new branch of Zarattini International Ltd was opened in Luxembourg in 2024.
Today, we are an international boutique bank located in Lugano, with offices in Malta and Luxembourg, that has become a significant financial institution, concentrating on four main business areas: Private Banking, Asset Management, Fixed Income Desk and Trade Finance. Our past showcases entrepreneurial vision, adaptability, and steadfast commitment to excellence in the banking field.
Mario Zarattini
Mario Zarattini was an Italian nuclear physicist. From a young age, he had a keen interest in finance, and in 1985 he launched his entrepreneurial venture, bringing together a group of entrepreneurs to develop innovative techniques for managing investment portfolios.His professional journey began in Italy, where he established a securities trading company that later evolved into a Securities Intermediation Firm (SIM), overseen by the Italian financial market supervisory authority, Consob. In 1991, Mario brought his project to Switzerland and founded Zarattini & Co in Lugano. SA, specialised in handling private equities through alternative investment strategies.Under his guidance, with some entrepreneurs he had gathered around him, including the current CEO, the group continued to expand and innovate, obtaining authorization in 2005 to conduct banking operations and officially transforming into BancaZarattini & Co. Today, the bank is recognized as a premier boutique bank in the financial sector, specializing in Private Banking, Asset Management, Fixed Income Desk, and Trade Finance services.Mario Zarattini has left a legacy in the financial sector, playing a key role in pioneering innovative investment strategies. Their strategic vision and capacity to adapt to the evolving market dynamics have set the stage for the growth and development of Banca Zarattini & Co.
